What I Have Learned From Reading The Happiness Project So Far

Hey loves, how has it been? I can’t tell you how much I have felt relaxed this past week. That mini getaway was the recharge I needed. If you have been reading my blog lately, you know my current read this month is “The Happiness Project.”

Gretchen in “The Happiness Project” talks about how you can identify and incorporate ways into your life that can help you have happiness.  She encourages you through her journey to find out what contributes to your happiness.

As I was laying in bed that Saturday night, I began to apply what I have learned so far from Gretchen as I reflected on my mini getaway and what it did for me. A couple of things stuck out. For the sake of time, I will talk about only one.

One was nature’s beauty.  I was like, I know we have some nature’s beauty here.  Since I know what nature’s beauty did for me on my getaway, I wanted to incorporate this into my routine.  Sunday morning I woke up on a mission lol.

Everyone was sleeping so I got up and went on the hunt to find a place with some nature’s beauty.  I thought about a rooftop place downtown but they were not opening until later. This gave me the opportunity to see what else my city had to offer. Wait, I said it, I called it my city lol. We have been here almost four years and I don’t think I have ever said that.

Okay, back to the subject before I lose focus.  I went to Instagram (yes, this is when social media can be use in a positive way) and look through the hash tags for #downtownsanantonio and found beautiful views of the historic pearl. I put that in my google maps and the rest is history.

I didn’t get my usual chai tea latte. I tried an iced caramel macchiato from the local coffee shop (first time there). It was yummy. Don’t worry chai tea latte, we will be back together in the morning. I sat in moments of quietness, read a chapter from my current read & strolled along the river walk.

Can you imagine the peace that comes with enjoying nature’s beauty? As I was sitting there enjoying my coffee in the moment of quietness, I thought about how I was able to wake up this morning with my health and strength and lay eyes on nature’s beauty. I had to stop in that moment and give God thanks.

As I strolled down the river walk admiring the view, I could feel my mind and body relax and feel at ease while my creative juices flowed through. This just took my Sunday morning to another level.

Just thinking about giving myself mini doses of the feeling that comes with enjoying nature’s beauty throughout my routine is giving me peaceful vibes.  Even as I type this, I am feeling all of the feels.  Of course, I am now on the lookout for other nature’s beauty in my city and nearby areas.

Does this contribute to my overall happiness? I would say “Yes” in a heart beat. It’s a big part of it.  When you think about it, we can create daily habits that will contribute to our overall happiness.  I am welcoming my new habit with opening arms.

Until next time
