Strawberry Watermelon Mint Tea Smoothie

We all know that heat comes with summer.  It is always nice to have a yummy cold beverage during the heat waves.  I love smoothies and I learned that watermelon and mint have a cooling effect so they would be perfect to help you cool down.  Smoothies do not always have to consist of milk or yogurt.  I like making them with tea also.  Here is a strawberry watermelon mint tea delight smoothie that I like to drink to give my body some great nutrients and to help cool off on a hot day.  My kids love it also.

Family Fun When The Lights Are Out

Family Fun When The Lights Are Out

A couple of weeks ago we had some bad weather which cause our lights  (electricity) to go out.  We usually watch movies on that day.  Now this should have been an unpleasant moment since electronics are very popular in our household but it wasn’t.  It was a great and pleasant moment for our household.  So, instead of movie time.   Oh, yeah, electronics are not allowed during the movie time.  This was actually suggested by my kids but I wondered how they were going to be without electronics for the whole day without any warning or planning of it.  They did just fine.   We had an impromptu family game day.

We played a game with circle a world puzzle including who could finish the puzzles the fastest.   Also, we played Monopoly and Uno (my kids added so many extras to this game). Oh, there was another game they made up about memory with the Uno but I didn’t play.  I watched them play.  It was so much fun watching them trying to keep their body language from telling off on themselves when they got the bad card.   We had laughs on top of laughs throughout the whole day.

So, we lost lights (electricity) before the daylight hit that morning.  Instead of sitting and waiting for them to come back on, we got out the games.  We played games from that morning until the evening.  We finally got lights again around late that evening.  And we ended our day with Netflix. See, We still got our movie in too.

We do family activities together but the impromptu game day due to lack of electronics made me think about how comfortable we have become with technology in the home.   My kids have electronics and I stay on some sort of electronic especially since the start of this blog.  Who am I kidding? Even before this blog, I was on the internet for something.  I believe sometimes we get so comfortable with technology until we forget about all of the things that can be done without it.

Any activities that include good interactions with my family are always great to me.  As I explained in a previous post about movie time, this too was like a beautiful beat to my favorite song.

I didn’t win not one time but it was a fun day. I take that back, I did win.  I won the biggest prize.  I won a spot in my kids’ heart that will be there forever by participating in memory making moments that will last a life time and I still got to enjoy another beautiful beat to one of my favorite songs.

Like I mentioned in another post, my kids are growing up and I cherish every moment I can with them.  I know that I will not be able to get these times back. The most precious things in life cannot be bought.  I enjoy nice things but the most precious things to me are not things but are the times spent with my family.

Even though the weather wasn’t good and we were without lights (electricity) and our planned event was interrupted, we enjoyed ourselves, beautiful music played, and the sun came out and shine in the Barney’s household.

Impromptu times that make some wonderful memories.   Don’t you just love when that happens?  I would love feedback.

Pineapple Orange Ginger Smoothie

Pineapple Orange Ginger Smoothie | When Juicing Meets Blending

Pineapple Orange Ginger Smoothie

What a great way to welcome in June with this delicious looking jar of healthiness.  I have been experimenting with juicing and blending  but blending (smoothies) almost always make the list of “I want one” in our household.  You know that phrase when the kids see something that look good to them and say, “I want one.”

My kids are not to fun of juicing  because the majority of my juices are made up of veggies with a fruit added to help with the taste. I guess they are not very tasty in their book but they still drink them though.  They are not on the “I want one” list.  I often alternate between juicing and blending but I love making mixtures with the combination of both ( juicing and blending) sometimes.  It seems like we are getting the benefits of both in one.  When I am doing a combination of both, I normally juiced a veggie to add but I wanted it to be delicious.  So, I decided to add a fruit(orange-because of the color that it is when it is juiced) and that is when this Pineapple Orange Ginger Smoothie was born.  The kids love it.

When the ingredient list is small, juicing and blending together is really simple and easy.

Honest moment: They will be able to get some benefits from all of the ingredients  but I didn’t add any green veggies because I didn’t want to change the summery (I don’t really know if that is a word lol) color. Isn’t the color beautiful?

3 Positive Ways To End The Day

3 Positive Ways To End The Day

In order to be productive for the week, it’s important to let go of any stressors that may have developed throughout the day.  If we hold on to daily stressors, we may wear our mind and body down overall.  Also by holding on to yesterday’s stressors, this helps us to focus more on the next day stressors which will make it difficult to get in solution mode for solving them.

I discussed a few months ago about How important it is to start your day with a boost of positivity.  I will say this post is part 2 of that post.  I don’t think that we can have a positive way to start the day routine without having a positive way to end the day routine.

So, let’s get on with it.

1.  Giving thanks.

A. This is one of my favorite and you can use this one for starting and ending the day.  It just something about finding thankful moments put the mind in a better place.  One way to complete this is by journaling.  Write down your thankful moments.  I love writing my thoughts down.

B.  Since your mind is in a positive place, why not keep the positivity going with by making a list of your accomplishments for the day.     Okay, you have documented thankful and accomplishment moments.  If you still have some tasks left on your to do list, don’t feel bad, just add them to the next day.

I have found myself adding more tasks before completing other tasks and this cause me to feel overwhelmed which was the reason for the post, Don’t Stress! Go for a laugh.

If you have accomplished every task on your to do list, jot down 3 tasks that you want to work on the next day.  This helps give you a great start to step 2, Make a to do list .

2.  Relaxing activities.  As I discussed in Simple Way To Relieve Stress, sipping some calming tea & doing absolutely nothing is another way to end the day great.  This gives you time to calm your mind down from the activities of the day and just relax.  It’s like unplugging from it all.  All it consists of is enjoying your time doing absolutely nothing.

A spa bath is another great one I love to do also.  I get my candles, soft music, lavender oil, epsom salt, stress reliever by bath & body works and I am all in.

3.  Give yourself a bed time and stick to it.  I discussed the importance of getting the recommended amount of sleep in 5 Tips to Reduce Stress.  This is very difficult for me.   I struggled with this one daily.  I was doing fine with it a few months ago but I can’t say that now.

I try to give myself a bed time but then I think of an idea or I want to research something for the blog and there goes my bed time.  My husband will roll over and ask, “You still up?”  “Yes, I just need a few more minutes,” I reply.  Ha, those minutes turn into an hour or hours.  I am working on it though.

There you have it.  Work in progress is definitely the definition of my life and I love it because I am taking control and working on doing better.  Some days are easier than others.  I am learning to enjoy progress.

I hope you enjoyed reading about 3 Positive Ways to End the Day and I would love to hear about some ways you participate in to end your day.

3 Simple Ways To Give Your Day A Boost (Positivity)

3 Simple Ways to Give Your Day a Positive Boost 3 Simple Ways To Give Your Day A Positive Boost

How you start your morning can influence how your day goes.  You have the power to help shape the way your mind thinks.  You can turn your reality into peace or chaos through the information you feed your brain.  Sometimes, life does not go as you plan but you can make the choice on how you let it effect your overall being.  The best time to work on your mind is in the morning before anything happens.  Shape how your day will be.  Here are 3 tasks I incorporate into my morning routine that boost my day in a positive direction.

1.  Giving Thanks.

This is one of the easiest and maybe the most underrated form of habits that will help improve your way of thinking on life.  When I look over my life in the mornings and give thanks and appreciation for what I do have including my family, my morning becomes bright and joyful. Don’t forget with coffee, tea, or your favorite morning drink.

Every morning the thankful list gets longer and longer.  There is a certain level of peace and contentment that comes with taking a few moments out of my day and realizing how blessed I am.  If you ever find yourself thinking about what is going wrong in your life, stop and take that time to think about what is and has gone right in your life.

2.  Make a to do list.

This helps you run the day instead of the day running you.  I love making to do lists. By accomplishing the tasks on the list, I feel like I have conquered the day. I try not to write long lists on day to day basis (I take a look at what I need to accomplish at the beginning of the month and than break it up into daily tasks) so I will not spread myself thin and risk developing stress.

3.  Exercising.

Exercise has been known to release happy feelings.  Dancing is one form of exercise that can be quite fun.  Music has a way of uplifting me.  I love how I am able to lose myself in the music and words of the song.  I simply turn on my favorites upbeat songs and move to the beat.  I do not try to have a certain rhythm (I am one who you would say, “Have two left feet lol”),  I just move with the music and sing along with the words that I do know lol and I feel a sense of freedom and happiness at the same time.

Then, I am ready to tackle the day.

These are 3 simple ways that I incorporate into my morning routine to boost my day into a positive direction.

What are some ways you add to your morning routine that helps brings about a positive day? I would love the feedback.

A Simple Way to Relieve Stress

A Simple Way to Relieve Stress

While I am sitting here sipping this chamomile tea (it is known for its relaxing/soothing benefits and it is also useful for a sleep aid), I find myself thinking of nothing in particular. Have you ever just had a moment from daily duties in life and think of nothing.  I mean, the mind is blank, forget the to do list or the thousands of other tasks lingering around, etc.

Sometimes we get so caught up in all of the list of things we have to do until we forget to have a seat to chill and rest. Even though it can be very enjoyable, scariness may creep in. Scariness such as a thought of should I be doing something or I know I do not have time to be sitting here doing nothing, or I am not been productive right now.

There have been times when I entertained those thoughts, but this moment is not it.  I refused to worry about what I should or need to be doing at this time, and I will enjoy this cup of chamomile tea doing nothing else.  Letting my mind and body rest for this little while. This is one of the relaxing activities from previous post.

And it is so SOOTHING AND PEACEFUL to my soul.

Protein Treatment/How Do You Put Protein in Your Hair?

Wash day/Protein Tx

Since I have restarted my hair healthy journey, I know my hair has been enjoying the tender love it has been receiving from me.  I am going on 6 weeks post relaxer.  Honestly, I love the way my new growth feels at this time.  If you ask me this in a couple of weeks, the answer may be different though lol.

Yesterday was wash day due to not having time on Wednesday (usual washday).  Protein helps to strengthen the hair.  So, this wash day consisted of adding protein to the hair.  I am working on balancing  protein and moisture with my hair.  I try to make sure that I eat protein based foods so I will not have to do a heavy protein treatment ( I am scared of them lol).  This  process is done once a month.

1st step – Prepoo

I applied coconut oil to my hair from root to scalp.  After I applied it, I conducted a scalp massage. Next time, I will heat it up (I forgot this time).  I put a plastic cap on for 1 hour.

2nd step-Shampoo

I wash my hair with a protein based shampoo.  Some may use a moisturizing shampoo (I normally use a moisturizing shampoo myself) but I needed the protein based shampoo this time.

3rd step- Deep Conditioning

After shampooing my hair, I applied a protein based deep conditioner to my hair as I would do a relaxer but from root to end.  I put a plastic cap on my head and let my hair deep condition for about 1 hour without heat.

4th step- Wash Out Protein based Conditioner/Put Moisture Back in Hair

I washed the deep conditioner out of my head.  I also used a moisturizing conditioner on my head to put moisture back in my hair.   I let it sit for 10-15 minutes. Sometimes, I will let the moisturizing conditioner stay in a little longer. Next,  I washed it out. I finger comb my hair to detangle.  The last rinse was with cold water. I squeezed the excess water out of my hair.

5th step- Drying My Hair

I covered my hair with a t-shirt until about 60% dry.  Next, I sprayed aloe vera juice mixture ( I use it as a leave in)on the scalp and my ends.  I let my hair air-dried.

6th step- Moisturizing/Sealing

I moisturized and sealed my hair from root to end. (products not shown but I used Scurl).

7th step-Styling

I put it in one plait on the side and put my bonnet on my head.

My hair was feeling so strong and also had some softness in it after the process.
